The Huff Family

Born in Prince William Co., VA, her family moved to Oglethorpe Co., GA in 1788. She married Joseph Reid Terrell (1786-1873) in 1816 and they shortly moved to Pickens Co, SC where their first son, James Danielly, was born in 1822. They had moved to Cass (now Gordon) Co., GA by 1826 where their second son, John Asbury, was born.

She and her husband received 3 male slaves and $ 1, 326.60 from her father’s estate in May 1828.
She and her husband were successful farmers, owning 14 slaves in 1830 and 16 slaves in 1840. They had cut back on their farming activities by 1850 as they owned only 3 slaves.

Elizabeth Terrell died in 1857 and her husband survived until 1873 when he was living with one of his sons in Cartersville, GA.

Her sons were successful in business and agriculture and this may be the reason that Thomas Poole Huff, their cousin, moved to Bartow Co. by 1890. The Terrell sons were awarded bank stock by Richard Huff, their uncle, in his will.
